Doll for Lily

Pattern: Kit Chloe and Louise from Hillary Lang of Wee Wonderfuls (you may remember I used another of her patterns for a mermaid last year)
Time to Complete: Soooo very long – so much handsewing – but all within a week
Size: About 1 1/2 feet tall, head to toe
Favorite parts: Blue hair, tiny pintuck pleats on the dress, pink wool felt shoes

Lily Doll 4

Completed just in the nick of time for my niece Lily’s birthday, this doll has a satisfying heft. I made her a doll for her birthday a couple of years ago, and Lily has slept with her every night since. When I visited North Carolina back in June, the older doll had seen better days, and was quite dirty and down to a few sad strands of hair. This time, I decided to use a pattern, and here we are.

Lily Doll 1

The doll is nicely shaped, and came with clothes patterns as well. I’m happy to know I can easily make her more clothes as I find the time. The only trouble with this pattern is that there was a lot of hand-sewing. Between attaching the limbs, sewing on the hair and embroidering the face, I spent many late nights awake long past Ashley in order to get it done in time.

Lily Doll 3

Emmett and Violet both wanted to keep it, and I promised Emmett I’ll make him one next, but it’ll take me a bit of time before I’m ready to tackle this pattern again. Lily’s very happy with it, though, so I’m happy to have taken the time to make her something she will cherish.

I was with Lily when she opened her package. I wish you could have seen the love and excitement in her eyes. She ran next door to her friends proudly showing the doll to them and exclaiming with enormous pride that her Aunt Samantha made it for her.
