Pencil Roll for Madison

I’ve been thinking for a while about starting a blog to keep track of the many things I make. I just finished my final project for my MLIS last week, so I’m thinking it’s time. I figure I’ll share craft projects, recipes, and the occasional book- or library-related musing. Here goes…

First up is a present I recently made for my dear niece Madison’s 10th birthday. This pencil roll has been a long time in the making. I first came across one of these in Joelle Hoverson’s Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts two years ago, and I’ve been scheming to make one for Madison ever since. I’ve since then seen many of these around on the crafty blogs. I must say, I like the way mine turned out.

I cut out the strips of fabric about a year ago, sewed them together about six months ago, and finally put it all together with batting, blue corduroy backing and a ribbon just in time for the big 10.
